Privacy Policy — LateDrift

LateDrift is a newsletter and podcast. This page explains what information is collected when you read our content or listen to our episodes, how that information is used, and what rights you have over it. We tried to write it in plain English.

01 What we collect

Information you provide directly — if you write to us at [email protected] or one of our other addresses, we receive your email and the content of your message.
Automatically collected technical data — IP address, approximate location, browser, operating system, referring URL, pages visited, session duration, and timestamps. Collected through standard server logs and third-party analytics.

What we do not collect — we do not process payments on this site. Any purchase made through an outbound link is handled directly by the manufacturer on their own checkout.

02 How we use it

To operate, secure, and improve the website and podcast feed.
To measure the reach of our newsletter issues and advertising campaigns.
To deliver relevant advertising through Google Ads and other networks.
To respond to letters you send us.
To comply with legal obligations.

03 Analytics and ad pixels

Google Analytics — readership measurement.
Google Ads — conversion and remarketing.
Meta Pixel — where applicable, for measurement on Meta properties.

You can opt out of Google Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, and manage ad personalisation through your Google account.

04 Legal basis (GDPR)

Consent for non-essential cookies and marketing tags.
Legitimate interests for site operation, security, and basic readership measurement.
Legal obligations where applicable law requires it.

05 Your rights

Regardless of where you live, you may contact us to exercise the following rights:

Access — request a copy of your data.
Rectification — correct inaccurate data.
Erasure — request deletion.
Restriction — limit how we process your data.
Objection — including to direct marketing.
Portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format.

California residents additionally have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know, the right to delete, and the right to opt out of any sale or sharing of personal information. We do not sell personal data.

06 Letters we publish

When we print a listener's letter in an issue, we do so only with that listener's permission. We change nothing in the words. We may shorten a letter for print length, always disclosed. We never publish a full name unless the listener explicitly asks us to. If you have ever written to us and want a letter removed from an archived issue, email [email protected] and we will remove it.

07 Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as required for the purpose it was collected, or as otherwise required by law. Server logs: up to fourteen months. Listener correspondence: up to three years, unless you ask us to delete it earlier.

08 Third parties

We share information only with the service providers that support the operation of our site and podcast feed — hosting, analytics, advertising measurement — and only to the extent necessary. When you click an outbound link to the manufacturer of a product we have mentioned, you leave our domain and that site's privacy policy applies.

09 International transfers

Some of our processors operate outside the European Economic Area. Where that is the case, we rely on Standard Contractual Clauses or other approved safeguards to protect data during transfer.

10 Children

This site is not intended for anyone under eighteen. We do not knowingly collect information from children.

11 Changes

Any update will be reflected in the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes we will post a visible notice on the issue index page.
